How is your custom made ironing board cover made?

My very first ironing board cover was made for my own personal use.  I made it up as I went along to make it fit my board.  It went through several ‘fittings’ before I was happy with it but nothing prepared me for the reaction when I shared it on my blog and social media.  Immediately requests started coming in for me to make them for other people, so I needed to perfect a process.  You can read about my early process in this blog post.

In the years since then, due to the experience I’ve gained, that process has been refined, but some things stay the same.  Each ironing board cover has three layers-the cotton top cover, a layer of heat resistant wadding/batting and finished with a layer of cotton wadding/batting. Not only will your cover be pretty to look at, it’s thick and absorbent, making for a more enjoyable ironing experience.  The covers are fastened underneath the board with a cord which you tighten.

I will endeavour to source fabric that suits  your colour scheme or theme.  You will get to approve the fabric before it’s purchased and your ironing board is made.  Previous themes have included dogs, camper vans, red gingham and even fabric printed with photographs.  If you have a board which is not a conventional shape or size, then feel free to send the old cover to me and I will use it as a template. Don’t worry, no one but me will see it.

What information do I need?

To make your ironing board cover, I need two measurements

1- Length from A to B at the longest point

2 – Width from C to D at the widest point

From that, I can do a basic ironing board cover, with a cord tie which will tighten to fit.

Once I know the size, I can work out how much fabric I will need.  I will source a selection of fabrics to suit your colour choices from which you can choose for your custom made ironing board cover.  I will then provide you with a no obligation quote.

You can pay for your custom made ironing board cover in full or in two installments, just let me know when you are ordering.   Your ironing board cover will only be sent out after full payment has been received.
