My passion is teaching, and I believe the best way to learn is with one-to-one attention and in small, focused groups. This is my speciality. No crowded classrooms where you can get lost. My sewing classes are intentionally kept small, often with just a handful of students, to ensure you get the personalised guidance you need.
Whether you’re a complete beginner who’s never touched a needle and thread, or a more experienced stitcher looking to perfect a specific technique, I can tailor the experience your sewing class to your individual needs. This is especially true for one-to-one sessions, where we can work at your pace, focusing on exactly what you want to learn. My goal is to help you build a strong foundation of sewing skills and, most importantly, the confidence to tackle any project.
Studio Sewing Classes for Everyone in Sheffield
Our studio in Sheffield offers a variety of sewing classes designed to suit every interest and skill level. While we have dedicated classes for Beginners, Quilting, and Dressmaking, our general sewing classes are a fantastic starting point. These sewing classes are perfect for anyone who wants to explore a wide range of techniques without committing to one specific area. You can learn how to read patterns, master different seams and finishes, and get comfortable with your sewing machine.

The atmosphere in our studio is always relaxed and encouraging. It’s a place where you can ask questions without feeling silly, make mistakes and learn from them, and celebrate your successes, big and small. We believe that sewing should be a joyful and a creative escape, and we strive to create that experience for every student who walks through our door.

Jane helped me to get to grips with my terrifying (!) overlocker through a one-to-one session recently. We covered a tremendous amount of ground and I have consequently been furiously sewing away on said machine to produce a couple of warm, stretchy dresses for the winter. I also had a great deal of fun as Jane definitely tuned in to my sense of humour!
As a result of the positive outcomes from this session I arranged another session with her to remind me of
basic maintenance routines for my standard sewing machine. I should add that I have been a (reasonably) competent home sewist for over 45 years, but there are always new skills to learn, old ones to brush up on, and knowledge gaps to fill, and Jane certainly tailored my sessions to suit my requirements relating to these.

I can’t recommend Jane at Loopy’s Place highly enough. When I first started, I had zero experience with a sewing machine and now, thanks to Jane’s patience, expertise and teaching style, I feel completely confident in my skills.
I attended the quilt sampler class a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! Jane is a patient, friendly and knowledgeable teacher. I didn’t just have a lovely quilt at the end of the course, but I also gained a few tips to improve my sewing in general. I’ve moved away from Sheffield now, so when I find the time, I plan to check out a few of her online classes too.

As a qualified tutor with over 10 years of experience teaching, both online and in-person, I’m passionate about helping you discover the joy of making something beautiful with your own hands.
With a current Enhanced DBS check and years of experience supporting individuals with a range of needs—including physical disabilities, mental and physical well-being, and various neurodiversities—you can be confident you’re in a safe and supportive environment.

I understand that sometimes you have a specific project in mind or a unique schedule. That’s why I’m always happy to tailor a bespoke sewing class just for you or your group. Maybe you and your friends want a fun afternoon learning how to make tote bags, or perhaps you want a few private sessions to get to grips with a complex pattern. I can also be flexible with dates for existing classes, so if you see a course you love but the date doesn’t work, let me know, and we can discuss alternative options.
