Sometimes, you get an email out of the blue and you wonder if it was for real. That was the case when I got an email from the company that produces the show, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. I was asked if I could make them an ironing board cover using fabric printed with their design. It was something I was happy to do and while I was waiting for the fabric to arrive, we had time to conjecture about what would be on the fabric and where the ironing board would be used.
The fabric duly arrived and the challenge was to make sure that the Countdown Logo was central and would be the right way to be seen. There wasn’t enough of the blue to do the casing, so I used the white to compliment it.
As filming for the new series had begun, this had to be made quickly. From initial email to them receiving the ironing board cover was less than two weeks. And then the wait began for the new series to be aired.
As each episode of the new series was aired, we’d scan through the recording to see when the ironing board cover would appear and then, in a blink of an eye, it was there!
It did appear again at the end of the programme and I do hope the new owner is enjoying their new board with bespoke cover. It may have had less than 20 seconds of fame on TV, but it will have years of use to come.
