Some time ago, I was given some lace to work with, I could do what I wanted with it, but I wasn't quite sure. One of the ideas, was to do sets of cushions, using different fabrics behind. Of course, the obvious shape to start with was a circle. I've had ideas with hearts, too, and maybe hexagons.
As I was only using fabric I had, often scraps, I have to work within the limits of how far it would go, but for the circles, I used a dinner plate, tea plate, and cups for the template.
The idea in my head was to quilt a flower shape, like we did at school with a compass and pencil, and I started on the smallest size and this is where the idea may falter. I forgot that it would be a lot smaller when you take into consideration seam allowances, the quilting doesn't really show up, small means the lace pattern doesn't really show, the lace is quite stiff, so turning small things is difficult, and circular is difficult to maintain.
I finished this one off as a pin cushion, and I wasn't sure if I liked it, so I left it on the table and went out. Having come back home and just seeing it out of the corner of my eye, I like it more.
What are your thoughts? I've already got the other circles cut out, so I may go ahead and see how they turn out, then decide on if I'll take it further, but I always appreciate your feedback. Does the idea work, would other shapes be better, and if so, what shapes would you like to see?
