This online group has grown from strength to strength since Juliet Nice and Nina Danielsson began a conversation in an American group. They were looking for a UK based Facebook group filled with relevant resources for British quilters and so decided to start one. The group has been so successful, moving to a group membership of over 13000 Quilters in the three years it has been the social network of choice for the UK Quilter, that the next step is to launch a full website and this is where Sylvia Priest stepped in. The Director of a successful multi-media company, Resolution Television, she has all the experience to get the project off the ground.
The new UKQU website will feature all the popular boards from the Facebook group and will give easy access to information about workshops, retreats and training, local shops and quilting groups. There are blogs planned for daily release from a wide range of members, from famous published quilters to new members beginning their P&Q journey. Product and book reviews will also feature along with a directory of UK shops and businesses. To keep the visitor occupied there will be a mystery quilt and BOM starting in January, with free downloads and new content will be appearing daily.
Sylvia is developing the site “to support the UK bricks and mortar shops and online suppliers” which she feels is really important. It will provide an on-line portal for enthusiasts to access local patchwork and quilting services across the country along with something to appeal to everyone, regardless of their experience or skill in patchwork and quilting.
The website goes live on 9th January 2018, is free to access and can be found at www.ukqu.co.uk where you can head over to register and enter the wonderful competition.
