There were a couple of sore fingers by the end, but they've rested overnight, and will be able to repeat the process today for the second quilt.
Which part of making a quilt do you enjoy most?

![]() I spent a pleasant few hours yesterday hand stitching the binding on the first of the quilts. I love this process, and I love seeing the tiny stitching holding it all together. ![]() The last of the cross stitch kits has now been made up. All these kits would be suitable for anyone eight years and above, although, some younger children could complete them with some adult help. Everything you need to complete the design and make a card is included, and all the threads are presorted. You can open it up and get started straight away. These will form the basis for workshops too, and as 50p from each kit goes to Teenage Cancer Trust, you can stitch and contribute to a good cause at the same time. The reason I had to get the printer sorted, was so I could finish getting these kits together. I had wanted to get them all done for the start of the Market Week, but that didn't quite work out. They've now been added, and are now available. For each one sold, and for each one used at my cross stitch workshops, 50p will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust. There is one more kit to put together, and then my Beginner's Collection will be complete. Hopefully, you'll get to see it tomorrow.
My thanks to Gaynor from Stitchers Anon for designing these for me. Visit her website for more lovely charts and designs. Sorry, I didn't mean to abandon you yesterday. I had to take Jonathan to a training session first thing, then lost the rest of the day trying to connect a printer that didn't want to connect. That, combined picking Jonathan up, taking him back out, then picking both boys up in the evening, the day seemed to just disappear. I can't complain about the boys though, Jonathan wouldn't go back out in the afternoon until I had the printer set up so I could use it, giving him a lift was a small price to pay. The jumper and little shoes now have pretty buttons attached. I love these little flower buttons, and I did get a few extra. I have a little cardigan in progress which I'm hoping I can use them on.
In other news, we have a Market Event going on over on Facebook, it's continuing until next Saturday. There's a lovely group of ladies involved, and giveaways every day, so click on the link and have a look. Both the blue quilts were on the sewing table today. The bindings have been attached, as have the labels. Now I shall be spend a cosy few hours doing some hand stitching. I could have done these all by machine, but after getting to know the lady and the love she wanted to pass on to her children, I've decided to hand sew the bindings, it just seems to make the quilts that little bit more special.
![]() Whilst waiting for buttons to arrive, another lot of wool jumped onto the needles. Actually, it's not wool but bamboo cotton. This is going to be a sailor style jumper, and is a slight variation on the blue and white theme. The "white" is actually a light beige colour, and works well with the blue. I'm loving how it's coming together. This is a joy to knit, and grows very quickly. All being well, the front and sleeves will be just as quick to do. ![]() After the jumper, there was still yarn leftover, so I've made some more baby shoes. These are different to the ones I've done before, but still cute. As you can see, they're waiting for buttons. That should be remedied today or tomorrow, I went shopping yesterday, so just need a few minutes to do some sewing. Today is the day, I finally do the second quilt, the boys ruined my routine yesterday, but I should get back on track today. ![]() The first of the quilts has been sandwiched, quilted and trimmed ready for binding. I've done a simple quilting, either side of the vertical seams, it works well with the blocks, and is giving the quilt a lovely vintage feel. The labels are printed ready to attach with the binding, but first, I'll get the rest of the quilting done, and bind both the quilts at the same time. Today, I'm out to get buttons and ink for the printer, so I'll get back to it all this afternoon. ![]() The joy of making baby and toddler items is that they don't take too long to sew together. This jumper has buttoned shoulder fastenings on both sides, so the front overlaps to the back. I need to go shopping this week and get some buttons before it's finally ready. I love this colour, so fresh and perfect for the spring/summer months. This is to fit age 18-24 months. |
Jane GalleyI have had a lifelong love of crafts which started with being taught how to knit at a very young age. It didn't take long to realise that great joy and satisfaction came from making things. Even now, I get a thrill seeing something that started just as an idea, becoming a finished product, whether I make it, or teach someone else how to make it. Categories
