I'm really excited about this month's featured class. If you haven't seen it, it's to make an applique cushion and I'm so pleased that some of my club member's are going to be doing their own designs. I can't wait to see how they progress throughout the month. You are welcome to come and join in the fun, just book your place here. If you feel this is a bit much for you, don't forget you can take advantage of our free class to get you started.
You may remember, a couple of months ago, midwife blankets were all the rage in the group. This lovely photo from Marilyn shows why they are so popular. It's the perfect baby blanket with a great pattern, I just love the border that helps to keep it's shape. Got to say, I'm loving it in blue.
The next swap/challenge has been announced and it has an autumn theme. The choice if item is up to you, but it has to have something about it that relates to autumn, whether it's colour, leaves, fungi etc. You are more than welcome to come and join in, just make sure you are a member of the group and add your name to the pinned post.In Video Tips
This is probably the time of year when many sewing machines are dragged of hiding to be put to work making gifts. If you would like your machine to love you and work hard for you, it's a good idea to give it a good clean. It's amazing how much trouble stray threads and bits of fluff can cause. If you haven't cleaned your machine for a while and you're a bit stuck, this video may help you. It's not as hard as you think it might be.
If you're looking to stock up on glue, Hobbycraft have a range of adhesives at only £1. If you're into the Great British Bake Off, they're also running a cake competition this month so get baking and send in those photos.
I had to share these Sew Slips form Quilt Direct with you. It's the first time I've seen something like this available in this size. It's great if you are looking to do free motion quilting or embroidery on your machine. It means you don't have to worry about lowering the feed dogs on your machine. It's also helpful if you're sewing with leather or waxed fabrics, helping them to feed through the machine more smoothly.
Love Knitting are donating all their profits for September to Save the Children to support the South Asia Flooding Emergency Fund. If you needed an excuse to buy yarn, this is a good one. You might want to add a Paintbox Yarns Chunky Pots to your basket, they look fab!
In case you missed it, you will find the blog post about the Hop and Skip pattern by This Psycho Knits here. I used Scheepjes Invicta Colour to make mine. If you decide to make one yourself, I'd love to see it so send me your photos.
Don't forget, to come and book your place on this month's featured class. If you haven't already tried it, there is a fantastic free class available. Next week, look out to see who will be winning this month's giveaway.
