Off he goes, rummages in my fabric crates and pulls out this green wool fabric. I don't have an excuse that we don't have fabric. The good news is, I have about two hours in the morning to make it before he leaves.
The next morning sees me down on my hands and knees cutting out pieces to make a cloak (oh, and don't forget it needs a fastening too!).
We had to make a few comprises on the length as we didn't have quite enough to do it full length all round and get a hood, but at short notice, I think we did alright.
I have to say, the fastening is my favourite. I've made an ivy leave, embellished on the machine and stitch to a kilt pin. I never got to see the full costume, but they had a good time. Hopefully, if I'm making costumes again, I'll get more notice.
Now I've made this one, there will be more cloaks, I fancy one myself, not for fancy dress, but one to wear day to day. I'm working it out in my head to have it lined, to give it just a little more luxury. We shall see how it all works out.
