When making with children, I always find that they appreciate being given a choice in what they do. It's an important part in encouraging their creative processes. In developing creative skills, often there isn't a right or a wrong way, there is just the way that's best for us personally and what appeals to us.
When we made the cards, although the basic idea was the same, the girls were given the option to stitch or draw the strings to the balloons and they both chose to draw them. They were given my button boxes and chose their buttons and, as you can see they each chose a different number of buttons. The thread and pen colours was chosen by the girls too. These were going to be their cards and they were putting their individual mark on them.
The elder of the girls took her card away to use another day, but the younger one drew some wonderful pictures of her family inside and gave it to her mum and dad. Her face was a picture of happiness when she gave it to them.
After the girls left, I continued with the theme of the button cards and developed the use of stitch. I'll share those with you tomorrow.
